Rep. Miller Statement on GOP Budget Alternative
Hartford— State Representative Lawrence G. Miller (R-122nd) today issued the following statement on the release of the latest GOP budget alternative:
“While it is imperative that the state adopt a budget quickly, it is equally important that the General Assembly and the Governor get the budget right. Connecticut’s economy and job market cannot tolerate passing the budget proposed by legislative Democrats that raise taxes on job creators by $1.8 billion. By contrast, the budget plan my Republican colleagues and I released today consolidates government to reflect the economic sacrifices shared by taxpayers, preserves generous levels of spending on social services to protect our most vulnerable, and avoids a tax increase in order to save jobs. The public has made it clear that these are the priorities they want lawmakers to address, and I am proud to support a budget plan that does just that. Other states with far larger populations and deficits have managed to balance their budgets without further burdening their taxpayers. Connecticut must do the same.”
